The year is going by so fast! Here is an update on things I have been doing to represent our state as the CSHSRA Queen!

First of all, I wanted to say how grateful I am to be representing our association, our state and this sport. I knew I would love serving in this role as the rodeo queen, and it has been even greater than I imagined.

I started off this year with the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo. It was a blast! I got to meet a lot of other rodeo queens around the state and introduce our association at the luncheon. I spent time with Miss Rodeo Colorado and also served any way I could help including behind the chute tours, raffle tickets and with the kid fans (my favorite!).

I then went onto Nationals placing high and winning Miss Congeniality! I went into the competition not fully knowing what to expect, but now feel like I could really have a shot at winning! I loved carrying the sponsor flags and meeting all the amazing queens from around the country.

I have also helped with mutton busting, local rodeos as-well as carrying the American flag at the CPRA Finals Rodeo and CPRA Montrose rodeo. Most recently, I carried the flag at the San Juan Ski Joring Finals in Ridgway racing down the snow!

I went and talked to the Girl Scouts about what it means to be a cowgirl, taught the how to tie a slip knot, and how to model like a Rodeo Queen! I have plans to visit a few local nursing homes this winter. It is fun to share about rodeo! Next up is the Mid Winter meeting where I can’t wait to see you all!

This next year I am planning on running for Queen again hoping to continue to make this program the best that it can be for the next queens! That’s what it’s all about!

I have a few ideas I think would make our rodeo queen program even better and I wanted to run them by you.

I think the program can really grow and excel with some shared knowledge about what a rodeo queen is all about! I’d like to offer some sort of rodeo queen info clinic at one or more of the rodeos this spring. That way I can share what is expected throughout the year and go over what everyone needs to know about the try outs at state. Things such as outfits, what is judged, and ti answer any questions or help guide in anyway.

Another idea I got from nationals is to have more coordinated sponsor flag help. Similar to how nationals assigns states each day to carry sponsor flags, I think I would be a great idea to ask whatever club is putting on the rodeo to recruit 5 team members to help carry flags in the morning. That would take a lot of stress of the Queen!

Another idea I have is provide a Photo Booth Queen fundraiser at cowboy prom that will support the Queen program.

Lastly, I have been very active posting on our CSHSRA Queen social media and I thought it might be fun to work with Mrs. Draper to post a “queen corner” at least once a month to keep everyone on the Facebook side of things updated!

I look forward to seeing you at Mid-Winter Meeting! Thank you so much for your support of our rodeos and my role as the rodeo queen. I am open to any other suggestions or ideas you may have!
